Michael is the founding attorney and Managing Partner of The Cochran Firm – Birmingham; and serves as the Managing Attorney of The Cochran Firm – Birmingham. Michael focuses his practice on personal injury and criminal defense. He also represents clients in the areas of consumer bankruptcy, and civil rights. The son of a renown Birmingham educator and a pediatric nurse, Michael’s upbringing is rooted in the call to equip and empower the “least of these” and to serve those in need. In addition to the practice of law, Michael serves as an adjunct professor at several colleges and universities, both locally and nationally. Prior to becoming an attorney, Michael served as a business management professor at Brown Mackie College in Birmingham and as a career technical educator with Montgomery Public Schools.

Michael is a member of the American Bar Association, the American Association for Justice, the Alabama State Bar, as well as the Birmingham Bar Association and Magic City Bar Association.
Michael is a graduate of Jacksonville State University where he majored in Mass Communications. He went on to earn an MBA from South University and an Ed.D. in leadership and management from St. Thomas University. Michael earned his law degree from the Birmingham School of Law and is a member of the Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity, Inc. While in law school, Michael served as president of the Judge Hugh Locke Honor Society, captain of the American Association for Justice Trial Advocacy Team, was awarded the Golden Gavel Award for superior trial advocacy skills, and was a member of the Black Law Student’s Association.
Michael is licensed in Alabama and admitted to practice in the United States District Court, Northern and Middle Districts of Alabama.
